Atari Vintage Games: 8 Bit Computers
Overview
Date Range: 1978 - 1987
The first 8-bit computers were the 400 and 800 and were based on the Atari 2600 with an open architecture design that resembled typewriters of the time.
Atari achieve significant market penetration until Commodore started a price war that was intended to put Texas Instruments out of business. However, the resulting price war left Atari losing US$1,000,000 a day by 1984 as a result.
Regardless, there were several thousand games made for Atari's 8-bit computers over the years. Most of the popular arcade games of the 1980s and 70s can be found on this platform.
